Los Angeles, CA – April 22, 2011 –  Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award-winning Actress Alexis Rhee (CRASH, 2004) discusses the challenges of acting on  CNN Headline News local edition  at the Charter Cable TV studios, Los Angeles, CA (dates TBA, check local TV Guide listings.)

“My brother directed me in a play while I was learning to play the violin,” Rhee told CNN Local Edition News Anchor Tracy Young in a record five minute news segment. “So then I got bitten by two bugs, music and acting.”

Rhee, who is also a classically trained accomplished violinist, a certified hypnotherapist, Microsoft Systems Engineer and a black belt in the Martial Arts and has also written a screen play entitled, “Hal.” The screenplay is about an old jazz pianist, who’s suffering from Alzheimer’s in a nursing home. “My mother passed away a year and a half ago from the disease, and I know there are a lot of actors’ parents who are currently suffering from Alzheimer’s,” explained Rhee, who is currently shopping her movie script.
When asked has it been easy to succeed in Hollywood? She responded this way, “Very, very difficult. The industry concentrates on the things I don’t do,” explained Rhee. “For example, speaking English without an accent. They don’t care about what I can do as an artist like playing the violin, martial arts and acting. These skills are all secondary. The first thing they ask is, ‘do you have an America or Asian accent?’” she said.  Rhee is of Korean descent.
Rhee put the call in Hollywood for equal opportunity for jobs for women.
“I think we need to write, direct and produce more movies. We have to search for the resources and create those jobs.  We have to show the world, ‘see we can do this, let’s get onboard, we can do this together,” she told CNN Headline News local edition.
Rhee has recently been cast to costar in a new movie, MATA LEAO: THE LION KILLER written by Rob Watt, which will be filmed in Los Angeles. She will be acting opposite Graham Beckel (L.A. Confidental, Brokeback Mountain) and Joanna Sotomura (Madison County), in MATA LEAO: THE LION KILLER. Grey Damon (True Blood) from Friday Night Lights TV series.    Paul L. Sandberg (Bourne Supremacy) (Bourne Ultimatum) has been asked to consider producing the movie.

Actress Alexis Rhee, whose long list of film credits include the blockbuster Oscar-winning Crash (2004); On the Rocks (2006), Norbit (2007) and The Things We Carry (2009), and hit TV shows such as Lost, ER, the shield and Gilmore Girls to name a few, is also an accomplished violinist. And she has been asked to compose music and the song for the MATA LEAO: THE LION KILLER.
